The Easiest Snack Guide For Kids!

The-Easiest-Snack-Guide-For-Kids!

Worrying about snacks for your kids? There’s so many options, but what’s healthy and most importantly what’s tasty? Here’s your perfect guide for it.

When you have two toddlers to take care of and a lot of going out to do, whether that is long distance or short distance, food becomes a major issue.

They will surely get hungry at the oddest of times and will rummage through your handbag for magical items to satisfy their craving. God forbid they come out from the jungle, that is the mommy handbag, empty handed, you have a full on toddler meltdown to deal with!!

So what to do and what to carry in such cases, well there are endless possibilities, and combinations depending on the kids taste preferences and likes. I try and avoid carrying packaged food though there are times when I have no option, but the less the better. The usual sandwiches-bread-jam, bread-butter variety are always a fall back option yet more often than not it seems to irritate my kids that I haven’t bothered to give their car snack a thought and packed bread once again!  So in the spirit of innovation here are some options I have tried and that could come in handy for you too:

For short distances, it is recommended that you keep fresh fruits or veggies. Apple slices or pear slices, grapes, orange wedges, carrot sticks, cucumber sticks, celery sticks, all of them make for easy non messy snacks. It you wish to amp up the gourmet factor you can always carry a small box of peanut butter or thick yoghurt dip as an accompaniment.

Cheese and crackers also make for good filling snacks. I have a cheese monster who can devour slice/wedge after slice/wedge and so this no cook option works wonders for me. I do tend to swap the crackers with soup sticks since cracker crumbs are painful to deal with later!!
Homemade muffins are a good option for long distance travel. We bake a batch a day prior to departure and stash them in our bags to munch on the journey. You could go for plain vanilla, chocolate, chocolate chip or maybe a little healthier – carrot, banana or even apple with oats. In situations where procuring meals for the kids, during the journey – healthy/ hygienic or in time, might be an issue, these muffins have come to the rescue!

If you are undertaking a daytime journey a great meal to carry along is a pasta salad. It is simple, non fussy and the kids love it. Toss some pasta in olive oil and herbs with some boiled peas, carrots and beans, if you prefer to, then some cut sausages can be added and you are good to go. It isn’t too untidy, even if the kiddo insists on feeding himself you know he won’t make a mess of things. Its yummy, it tastes great hot or cold and the kiddo gets to eat his veggies this way.

Fish fingers/chicken fingers or vegetable fingers are also a great option to carry along for the kids. I always keep a batch prepped up in the freezer. Fry and carry along as and when required, a favourite with my kids and with us too! I always carry a little more since they definitely are hard to resist!

Trail mixes are great fun to take along too. To make a healthy and fun trail mix take a zip lock bag and add almonds, cashews and raisins along with some dried bananas, apples or oranges, throw in some candy such as Cadburys Gems or M&M’s and top it off with O shaped cereals such as honey loops. This you can stash in your handbag but remember to refill it before leaving the house since once the kids know that this magical mix exists in your bag, there will be repeated demands for it every time you hit the road!

Heya! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any trouble with hackers?

My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing several weeks of hard work due to no backup.

Do you have any methods to protect against hackers?
