Malls and fancy shops are great, we all love them and love hanging out there, but the true fun of shopping lies in hitting the streets to look around and who knows what you may find.
India is a shoppers paradise, and tourists swear by the cool and inexpensive stuff that is on display in the shopping markets all over. Street shops are there all over the place, but then there are some places and streets which step the game up.
Here are some of our favorite places to hang out, shop, haggle and basically just have a blast while at it!!
New Market, Kolkata
Also known as the SS Hogg’s Market, earlier it used to be claimed that you will get everything from a needle to an elephant in New Market. A favorite for the locals and tourists alike, New Market really does have almost everything that you can imagine. From sarees to makeup, toys to confectionary and luggage to meat and vegetables, it is clearly a one-stop destination for a shopper. Along with the fact that there is immense variety to choose from, you can easily spend a whole day in the market and still feel like you didn’t get your fill of it!

Baapu Bazaar, Jaipur
Jaipur is shoppers paradise. You cannot leave Jaipur without getting your fill of ghagra choli, bandhini sarees, ethnic jewellery, and jootis. All of this at very reasonable prices, and if it isn’t reasonable then you can always haggle it out!

Colaba Causeway, Mumbai
One of the many street markets in Mumbai, but definitely the most eclectic and sought after! This market will have the latest fashion available at the most reasonable prices. From handbags to shoes to clothes, only the fashionable ones make it to the stall. What is an added is that the causeway on the footpath which houses some of Mumbai’s oldest and most iconic eateries so you could always pop in for a refresher before you head out to shop again!!!
Sarojini Nagar, Delhi
If there is a street shopping capital, then that has to be Delhi undoubtedly! Sarojini Nagar is an iconic place, featured in movies and songs and claimed to be the craziest and the best as far as shopping is concerned, it is definitely worth the hype. They basically sell export surplus at cheaper rates and therefore have the top of the line latest fashion always on display. The one thing though, you better get your bargaining A game on, because the sky is the limit as far as reduction is concerned!!!

Goa is synonymous with sun, sand and nightlife! Somewhere in there, is the famous Saturday Night flea market too that everyone talks of. The Arpora Night Market is the most happening place to be on Saturday night, beautiful lighting and amazing music just sets the mood and elevates the place. Jewellery, handicrafts, home décor a variety of things on display. A must visit even if you don’t wish to shop, just worth a see.
