Prep Your Skin For College


College is a crazy time isn’t it? Studying all night, partying all the way till morning, all that junk food and basically doing just about everything that mom asked you not to. It’s all fun and games till it all starts taking a toll on your health and more so on your skin.

You need to follow some basic tips to ensure that your skin is healthy and glowing no matter what. A little bit of discipline goes a long way.

Here are some of my tips to treat your skin with a little bit of TLC.

1. First up consult your healthcare professional and get basic vitamins prescribed. All that alcohol and caffeine and low consumption of water is definitely going to create havoc. I recommend that you get Vitamin E pills prescribed for sure. They are miraculous.   Take them orally or apply them to your skin if there are any blemishes.

2. Water should be your religion. Before you leave home, stash a bottle in your bag and remember to drink it. These days there are fancy waters, such as flavoured water, fruit infused water, warm water fads, do what suits you, but ensure that you get your minimum eight glasses of water. It will keep your body functions in place as well as keep your skin glowing. Apart from consumption, keep washing your face. Not necessarily with a soap or face wash each time, you could keep a spritzer at hand to hydrate your face or just splash some water to remove the dust and grime. This becomes even more important if you have oily skin. You could use unscented face wash or facewash lotion for sensitive skin to keep it clean.

3. Try and limit your caffeine consumption. Coffee might be yum but then again, it isn’t doing wonders for your skin at all. It dehydrates and makes your skin look dull and lifeless. You must drink alcohol in moderation and if possible avoid cigarettes. It might not have an immediate effect but it will lead to premature aging of your skin. Rather, switch to a healthier lifestyle. Opt for green tea. Drink at least two cups of it and apply the tea bag to your face for a fresher and healthier skin.

4.  Use a sunscreen for sure. It is very important to protect your skin from all the damage of UV rays, so never step out without sunscreen on your face. Look for sun protection factor (SPF) of a minimum of 15. At least have it on from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., apart from protecting you from skin cancer it ensures that no premature wrinkles appear.

Religiously CTM every night. Cleansing, toning and moisturising are the holy trinity of skincare 101. First clean your face with a suitable cleanser, if you apply makeup on a regular basis then use make up specific cleanser, you get separate eye makeup cleansers. Then wash your face with a face wash to get all the last bits of residue out. Use a good toner, without alcohol preferably and then use skin specific moisturiser. Remember that day moisturisers/creams and the night ones are different. Get yourself a good day cream and a good night repair one so that all that damage can be lapped up.picisto-20160103044544-659575
