I love to travel at my own pace, with time in hand and be the master of my destiny. The usual business travel happens via flights and its quite tedious to be honest. To take a break from all that monotony, I love to go on road trips, with my trusty motorcycle ofcourse!
Road trips are the best ways to explore and discover the wonders of our beautiful country, the culture, the people, the nature, the food all of it!
From a full fledged rugged tour of Ladakh to biking through the vast Thar or even zooming from one city to another with villages dotting the sides, its such a joy!
Carry the Thundercat from my collection! Sure to fit in all your essentials while on the road!
Here are the top road trips one must undertake in India-
Mumbai to Goa
Dil Chahta Hai popularized this road trip. Everyone wanted to make this trip with their bros or girl gang. The trip is still as popular! The distance is around 600 km on NH 17 or NH 4 and it is a beautiful and scenic trip on the Western Ghats. Takes about 12 hours and the best time to go is during December/ January when the weather is quite pleasant.
Jaipur to Jaisalmer
The Pink City is an amazing place to explore on its own. With all the history and locales that it has, one can spend a good few days here. Rajasthan though in totality is an amazing place to visit and see and therefore a trip from Jaipur to Jaisalmer by road is a must do. Take NH 15 it’s a 560 km stretch with small villages, dhabas and the desert to give you company. Best time to do this road trip is in the winter months.
Chennai to Pondicherry
Chennai to Pondicherry via the ECR or the East Coast Road is a beautiful drive with the Coromandel Coast giving you company and the waves of the Bay of Bengal welcoming you. There are some decent eateries along the way serving authentic south Indian food and coffee which is always welcome! Take a detour and visit Mahabalipuram too. The distance from Chennai to Pondicherry is 389 km. It is definitely a treat to take this trip!
Kochi to Munnar
God’s own country has a destination for every traveller. From beaches and backwaters to hill stations. This road trip is short and scenic. About 130 km from Kochi to Munnar, it takes 3 hours to get there. With the tea estates and rose gardens, lakes and waterfalls, if ever in Kerela do try and make time for this one!
Delhi to Leh
This is the ultimate mother of all road trips! Via Srinagar and Kargil or via Manali, you can make your choice, or you could go one way and come back the other. It is an epic 1200 km distance one way, so brace yourselves for this one! May/June and September/October are the best times to travel to Leh otherwise the weather conditions are quite tough. There are so many places to see on the way that it’s advisable to go with some time on hand else you wont be able to do justice to the trip. From Leh one must go onwards to Nubra Valley and visit the Pangong Lake for sure!
You need to pack your Trooper bag if Leh is your destination!
