24 hours in Delhi!

Delhi is a heady mix of history, culture, the modern and the old, the eclectic and the traditional.

A beautiful panorama of everything that makes India so unique is encapsulated in this place called Delhi.

24 hours are definitely not much while trying to absorb the essence of what Delhi is but if you are on a business trip to Delhi or on some sort of a layover to another destination, you must not lose out on the chance to explore this city. The uniqueness of this place will leave you stunned.

Here is a suggestion of what all you need to pack into your day, from dawn till way beyond dusk.

Early morning

The best place to hit by 6 am is Lodi Gardens. Situated between Khan Market and Safdarjung’s Tomb on Lodi Road, this sprawling space of greenery is a favorite with morning walkers/joggers and anyone looking for a refreshing start to their day. Studded with tombs and domes of the Sayyid and Lodi Dynasty, you might just bump into the who’s who of Delhi while taking a look around, so keep your eyes open.

After that walk, head to across to the India Habitat Centre on Lodi Road itself and walk into the All American Diner. This place is breakfast heaven! It is like stepping into Archie’s comic and sitting at Pop Tate’s! Their pancakes, waffles, shakes, breakfast platters everything is a must have.

Post Breakfast

Now that you are satisfied, head over to the Red Fort, to check out this marvelous structure in all its glory in the first half of the morning is something else, quiet and serene. Soak up the history and feel regal in your surroundings. Once you are through, go across to Jama Masjid walk through the bylanes of Chandni Chowk, an amazing place to shop as well as try out some of the local fares. Stop by the parathewali gali or have some daulat ki chaat, the ghee ki jalebis or the papri chaat.

Once you are done with Dilli Haat, pop over to Connaught Place to wind down in any of their great café’s while marveling at the beauty of Lutyens architecture. If you haven’t grabbed lunch at any of the state stalls at Dilli Haat, Kaake di Hatti at CP outer circle is recommended or even the Delhi staple Nirula’s. If you have any more energy left to shop walk over to Janpath to do some street shopping.
